Who We Are

The County Candle Co. was founded in 2020 with the desire to create candles and fragrances that capture the essence of beloved locations within Prince Edward County based on their unique natural and historic elements

Displayed with minimalist, refined design and using premium, eco-conscious ingredients we aim to produce high quality candles through time-honored hand-crafted technique. We use 100% soy wax, lead-free cotton wicks, 100% phthalate-free fragrances infused with essential oils, and recyclable packaging and shipping materials. Each candle is wicked, poured, and labeled by hand in Prince Edward County 

 

About the Founder

Leah Byford is a County native, having grown up spending summers on the beaches of West Lake and snowy winters in the woods of Cressy.  After studying Commerce at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, her desire to work in a creative field led her to study at Parsons School of Design in New York City. She has since worked in the fashion industry in New York, and most recently San Francisco, California, for the past eleven years for some of the industry’s largest global retailers.  Although she has lived internationally for several years, the County will always be home

With the knowledge that scents can evoke memories of places and special moments, and a passion for design, Leah was inspired to create a piece of this special place that she can keep with her in her homes away from home. A memory of making candles with her mother when she was very young inspired the creation of what is now The County Candle Co - a company dedicated to making beautiful luxury candles with fragrances that celebrate cherished County destinations
